  1. I would like to draw your attention to an experimental system alternative to perpendicular anisotropic ferromagnetic films. The metamagnet FeCl2 undergoes a first order transition from an antiferromagnetic into a high moment paramagnetic state. The coexistance regime of antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic order looks exactly like the labyrinth structure of the isothermal ferromagnetic first order magnetization reversal shown in the figure above. Perhaps that is of interest for you? This is a well-known system and in particular the domain state has been investigated experimentally by Faraday-microscopy by Kushauer and Kleemann. Theorists working in the field of multicriticality tried to ignore this mixed state, since it is a dipolar effect which at the time was hard to deal with due to the long-range nature of the dipolar interaction. To the best of my knowledge a little bit has been done in 2D using Ewald summation techniques. If you contact the authors I mentioned above, please give them my(http://physics.unl.edu/~cbinek/index.htm) best regards.
